Art and History of this Hermès Scarf

With Daïmyo, Princes du Soleil Levant, Françoise Faconnet celebrates the refinement of Japanese aesthetics and its founding values: power, wisdom and loyalty. Inspired by feudal Japan, this scarf pays tribute to the daimyo, lords whose circular coats of arms – symbols of perfection – often depicted animals or plants. At the centre, the crane, an emblematic bird of happiness and longevity, is surrounded by ginkgo foliage, the tree of resilience and wisdom. In the background, the crossed swords of the samurai recall the weapon of combat and of hara-kiri, becoming here the guardians of a heritage of bravery and honour. Both graphic and spiritual, this scarf strikes a subtle balance between strength and ritual beauty, in a vibrant tribute to the Princes of the Rising Sun.
